Many of us have lost commuting due to remote working, or have came to commute less frequently since this March. Thus we no longer have the rhythm of getting up in the morning, getting ready to go to work, instead we can start working from where we wake up in the morning or to chill right at where we work all day after work. So we often feel challenging to set appropriate moods throughout the day.
Lately, we spend so much time at home, and it is difficult to change our environment from the time we wake up to the time we go to bed. However one thing that can easily change the atmosphere is the scent.
As a professional in designing spaces, we understand the power of scent can give to the space so we have been offering the scent space design as part of our interior design services.
Today we would like to share with you our collaboration with At Aroma on how we can support you at home, which could double as your home office.
There are two main categories of fragrances, natural fragrances and synthetic fragrances.
Synthetic fragrances can be too harsh to certain individuals, and we would like to talk about natural fragrances today.
You may have heard the word “aromatherapy”. The basic concept of aromatherapy is to promote physical and mental health by using the power of essential oils extracted from various parts of plants.
Essential oils have various functions, but it is said that the aromatic components contained in essential oils are produced for the plants to survive (ex. to reproduce and to protect themselves).
Here are some of the benefits of using essential oils as part of our everyday life:
- It repels insects at bay
- It promotes relaxation or refreshment.
- It helps to focus, etc.
Peppermint, eucalyptus, lavender, rose and many other plants from which essential oils can be extracted are found all over the world. It is very interesting in the world of aromatherapy that the scent of the same kind of oil differs according to the place of origin and year of harvest.
By the way, aromatherapy can be enjoyed by diluting the essential oils with carrier oil for body massage or by using a diffuser or a humidifier to spread the fragrance.
Massage is great for relaxation however today we would like to share a method of “scenting” that can be used both at work or at break.
For example we normally recommend peppermint or rosemary to help feel refreshed and focused in the morning, or lavender or chamomile to help get a good night’s sleep.
When we smell a scent, it is transmitted directly to the brain through our sense of smell as electrical signals.
Out of the five human senses, only the sense of smell directly reaches the limbic system, the part of the brain responsible for emotions such as memory, anger, sadness, and joy. So it can be said that the scents strongly affect human emotions.
The easiest way is to put a few drops of essential oil onto tissue or cotton ball and enjoy the scent as it volatilizes naturally.
Since essential oils volatilize, they have much shorter lasting time time than artificial fragrances (such as perfumes and air fresheners), but they do have a pleasant, gentle scent that wraps around you.
At Aroma features 100% natural essential oils that are hand blended by designers to enhance their function and effectiveness. These high quality essential oil blends can be enjoyed with their original diffusers come in varieties of shapes and sizes.
